Winslow Family Band Makin' Some Ground

Last week, The Winslow Family Band hit the studio for the first time with the new line-up. To say the sessions were long overdue would be an understatement. We started recording at the Winslow Compound here in Nashville just trying to simply get a working demo going, but after nailing down 6 songs in the first night, we decided a full-length album was in order. We have lots of material that no one's even heard yet, so I am pretty excited to get this stuff out. I don't want to set a release date just yet, but at this rate it will be out sooner than later. We are going to focus on 5 or 6 of the tracks first so we have a demo and then we will work on the second half of the album as soon as humanly possible. Stay tuned...
Check us out this weekend...
Friday 7/16 @ Newby's, Memphis, TN
Saturday 7/17 - Fresh Hats Tight Beats will be playing a free show in Memphis @ the P & H Cafe with our good friends, RC da Colaman and DJ Squirt.
It's gonna get rowdy...

THE ANCIENT FUTURE IS HERE!

This is a story written by our good friend and fellow Winslow, Darcy Barrett about the release of The Ancient Future and what it means to her. Thanks Darcy, no one can match your imagination.

Here is the email we received on Tuesday:

I just want you to know I woke up on Saturn this morning.

It was 800 B.C. I was curled up next to Valcor on a giant mushroom cap surrounded by patches of four leaf clovers and wild flowers. In the distance I saw a pack of friendly brontosauruses drinking coconut milk from a glorious waterfall when suddenly I was transported by a fairywinkle’s farticle back to what seems to be earth where we consumed a breakfast of rainbow puffies, leprechaun muffins and unicornicuns (magical truffles that can only be found by unicorns).

So far the day has been great! My eyelashes have grown two inches and cast colorful lazer beams with every bat. I’m having the skinniest day ever. I swear I lost 50 lbs and am light as air. I’m actually hovering over the ground which explains the weightlessness. No need to walk…. Just glide. Luna transformed into Lunicorn just past midnight. We knew that was coming… She’s gorgeous you guys. I’m sure you can imagine. Luna and Valcor have become VERY good friends. I think they’re in love and quite possibly will conceive the most magical creature ever known. I’m wearing a toga adorned with jewels and crystals. In my pocket I found an adorable male fairy friend that can grow to normal size upon my command. I must admit he is ridiculously handsome, masculine, magical and a master in the sack (when I make him normal size of course). He promises me he is forever my servant and has vowed to protect and defend me forever. I am pretty sure it is Matt because he was not next to me when I woke up and I can’t seem to locate him. This darling little fairy doesn’t think he is Matt but they share so many qualities. Perhaps he lost some memory during his transformation. I’m a badass on the harp. When I sing the trees sway, the grass grows greener, the sun shines brighter and the waters run crystal clear. I am friends with all animals and we have conversations in Balabagadarcyka, the language of the mystical creatures. I’ve actually adopted many animal characteristics. I can climb anything, grow incisors AND a full body fur coat. I discovered a giant twisted staff with a crystal ball on top next to me on the mushroom cap. Valcor assured me it is mine and I’ve been casting magic spells and training dragons for 10,000 years now. I’m pretty sure I’m a wizard.

Basically all my dreams are coming true thanks to THE BIZ.

Tales from the Ancient Future

The Ancient Future is coming! But until then you can read my tales from the ancient future on my blog metasynchronicity.blogspot.com I will periodically be publishing stories about people who are living in or near the ancient future. Characters include Pete Longhorn, Emmanuel Maxwell and Johann Phillip Reis who are caught in the tangled web of time manipulation brought on by Bell Labs of the ancient future, Faraday Maissilo, the geologist who has found a gap in the layers of the earth, and others that have yet to be revealed.

Animated Paint - Art by Lauren Gregory

Hello again,
I'd like to introduce everyone to another good friend of mine, Miss Lauren Gregory. Currently, based out of Chicago, Lauren is an inspiring painter/photographer. Sometimes combining these 2 media, she also creates animations that are visually captivating and occasionally accompanied by audio. Lauren is also a musician, super fun to hang out with, and an excellent maker of mixtapes. Here's a link where you can find some of her work...

Live at Moog - PL / MMW / & more....

Hey everybody, I thought this was a pretty cool thing that Moog is doing right now where they invite artists to the Moog HQ in Asheville, NC and let them have fun with any equipment they can find. The most recent one was Pretty Lights but this little series has also featured MMW, Matisyahu and Yo La Tengo, just to name a few. I think its worth investigating....

Fresh Hats Tight Beats: Headed to the M-town to Get Down

Good morning to all Winslows and soon-to-be-Winslows alike... So I'm pretty stoked to be going home for the FHTB show this weekend for the first of a few shows we have booked in beautiful Memphis, TN. It's a show of firsts for us. While it will be my first performance as Fresh Hats Tight Beats without P.Buck and Leigh, this will be Matt in the Hat's first show as a member. I'm excited about it. We have some killer material lined up. Also, this is the first time a Winslow group has played at the Full Moon Club in Memphis since the Go Show a couple of years ago. It's bound to be a funky, good time. We will be sharing the stage with Infinite Heights, the sonically ass-whooping beats and treats from bass man extraordinaire Jon Furr (For those who don't know, Jon Furr and I had a band together a few years back called King Otis-which also featured Taktix on the mic). Playing alongside Furr is Khari Wynn, a ridiculous guitar virtuoso who is in from a stint on the road with Public Enemy. He's also played with Bootsie and many other famous cats. We will be joined by our good friend and emcee, Taktix, for a few songs and we also plan on doing a jam at the end of the night with Infinite Heights. This should be a great time indeed. Well, I have to get out of here for now. Matt should be over soon for an all-day rehearsal session for our show. Stay tuned for some audio and/or video from the show. Can't wait to see some of those familiar faces I haven't seen in a minute. M-town. Get down. Ready or not , here we come. Peace, z.matt.33

Dillon Snider cooks it up FRESH in the Chucktown...

I just wanted to introduce everyone to one of my best friends since 5th Grade, Mr. Dillon Snider. This guy is an incredibly creative professional chef in Charleston, SC and has always been an inspiration to me and my culinary endeavors. I hope you will find the same to be true for yourself. I found a short interview and a description of the restaurant where he is currently the Chef and wanted to share it. Enjoy!

Video Bizcast Volume Ten 2010-01-23 Highlight #2

This jam was really intense and the floating lamps in the middle of the clip really brought things together. We enjoyed this clip a lot especially because it was the last jam of the night.

A Vision Becomes Reality!

Just thought it would be fun to share this picture.
Leigh bought us a giant doodle pad to work out our ideas for Christmas.
It's a good thing too, because we work out the first inklings of our ideas for the new website on that very pad.
The picture isn't fantastic, but its still cool to see it go from a pen and a pad to the internet!

Is the World Ready?

for what the winslows have in store? Only time will tell. Bernstafunk here...just signing on and checking things out. Stay tuned...
